THE URBAN REVIEW

The First Annual

The Canadian Black Film Festival (CBFF) is Canada’s premier and only film festival which is dedicated solely to celebrating and putting the spotlight on films of black culture, origin or content, from the diverse landscapes, countries and continents that represent the fabric of African-Canadian and Diaspora filmmaking. It is a partner festival to the celebrated BFM International Festival, held annually in the UK each year.

Nicole Brooks is an innovative, young filmmaker that fought to have his story told. After being rejected by numerous television stations, OMNI TV embraced her vision and supported her goal to have the story of the Honourable Lincoln Alexander told, by the man himself. With an electrifying introduction by Mike "Pinball" Clemons, this film was revealed to an audience that held on to every word and every nuance - ready to share that inspiration with the world.

CBFF
Gad Campbell is the founder and director of the CBFF. He saw a void within the urban film community, where opportunities were scares for young filmmaker to train and excel in their craft, or to share the fruits of their labour. Thus, the CBFF was born; partnered with the BFM International Festival in London - the future of the CBFF is bright with programs targeting youth and workshops for up-and-coming filmmakers to cultivate their skill and to bridge the gap that exists with urban filmmaking and the mainstream community.
